This report forms part of Ovum’s Digital Economy 2025 series and offers a summary of the outlook for the telecoms industry during the coming Second Digital Revolution of the next decade
Connectivity underpins the Second Digital Revolution expected over the next ten years. Consequently, global spending on broadband services will rise to $781bn in 2025. However, this impressive 51% rise is dwarfed by the 205% rise forecast in traffic.
The Second Digital Revolution brings more open ecosystems and more intensive disruption cycles. However, the importance of connectivity will ensure that the telecoms industry will survive.
Consolidation will occur in all areas of the telecoms industry. The commoditization of components, devices, and network equipment will lead to vendors seeking economies of scale. The CSP space will become an even more scale-dominated business.
