NXTcomm 2008 was short on optical announcements, but the market remains strong evidenced by the bandwidth growth in metro and core backbone networks and the insatiable thirst by operators for 40G and 100G transmission.
EMEA optical networking sales amounted to $5.18 billion for the four quarters ended 1Q08, up 26% from the year prior (up only 10% in euros). 1Q08 sales of $1.22 billion represented an 18% sequential decline but 13% growth from 1Q07.
This spreadsheet contains EMEA quarterly revenues, market share, rolling 4-quarter market share, and market share rank for optical networking vendors through 1Q08.
First-quarter 2008 results for 51 EMEA-based telcos indicate good progress at restructuring and international/mobile expansion plans at the big five incumbent network operators (INOs).
As we do each year, we're counting down the last few days before the NXTcomm conference, to be held this year June 16-19 in Las Vegas. As expected, vendors have been busy readying their announcements and some of them are quite interesting.
