 Brett Azuma, SVP, Telecoms AdvisoryBrett Azuma is the Senior Vice President of Ovum Telecoms Advisory. He is responsible for Ovum's telecoms analysis, which covers telecoms service markets, regulation, infrastructure, software and components in both the fixed line and mobile markets. In addition to leading this group, he leads research efforts in areas such as application development, service innovation and operational agility. Previously, Brett was head of RHK Research and led its successful integration into Ovum. Brett has more than 22 years' experience in marketing, engineering, sales and operations. Most recently, Brett led the marketing and sales efforts for a VoIP media server start-up called IP Unity. This role additionally involved the integration of EmpowerTel, a system-on-a-chip company, when it was acquired. Prior to that he spent five years at Gartner in roles including Principal Analyst, Public Networks, Chief Analyst, Telecommunications, Group Vice President and Head of Research for Gartner's G2 research division. During this tenure, Brett successfully integrated NBI's research team into the Dataquest Telecom Division and Inteco, a UK-based consumer research team, into GartnerG2. Before joining Gartner, Brett held a range of positions within Pacific Bell, ranging from engineering and operations to marketing and product development. Among these responsibilities were Head of Data Services and New Product Development at Pacific Bell's long-distance arm, Head of AIN and Advanced Voice Product Development, Engineering Manager for new switching technologies, and Senior Engineer for new technologies. Brett has presented at numerous telecommunications conferences on topics including data network traffic management, VoIP, adoption of triple-play services, bundling, data networking and business services. He has also been seen in CNBC interviews discussing a wide range of telecommunications subjects. Brett has provided diligent support for clients, evaluating M&A activities for vendors in the VoIP and IPTV markets. Additionally, he has been responsible for business case development for services (including AIN, LNP, ATM, ISDN, area-wide centrex, E911 and long-haul frame relay) and equipment (including media servers, application servers, voicemail, unified messaging, announcement servers and conference bridges). Finally, Brett provides strategic advice to companies that sell and purchase modular infrastructures, including ATCA.
