John O'Brien, Analyst and Service Manager

John is an analyst in Ovum's Government practice, and is service manager of the PublicSector@Ovum advisory service. His areas of expertise include the UK public sector market for software and IT services and, in particular, the rapidly evolving local government, education and health markets.

As an analyst with the Public Sector team at Ovum, John also tracks developments across the UK government sector as a whole. His specific area of expertise is in the emerging area of shared services, and to date his reports on the subject include The future of shared services in the UK public sector and Shared services: defining the opportunity.

During his time at Ovum, John has contributed to various consulting and research projects, and is often engaged with clients for specific enquiries. He is also in regular contact with the media, where he is often quoted.

Prior to joining Ovum, John worked as a technology journalist for several years, covering the global IT services markets. John has a BA (Hons) degree in English Literature and French from the University of Reading, and postgraduate qualifications in journalism.
