Kym Ip, Senior Consultant

Kym Ip is a senior consultant in Ovum's telecommunications consulting group, based in Melbourne. Kym is a specialist in cost modelling, strategic/business modelling and performance modelling. She has worked in regulation for more than four years. Before Ovum she worked for Vinci Investments as a PFI analyst. Prior to Vinci, Kym worked with the Strategic Rail Authority on performance analysis.

Kym holds an MSc in Operational Research from the London School of Economics and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematical Science with Finance and Economics, with a European year out at the Technische Universitaet Berlin, from City University. She has excellent German conversational skills, as well being a native speaker in Cantonese.

Recent projects include:

• Kym has been the chief modeller on various regulatory models examining fixed and mobile termination rates. Mobile, fixed and hybrid LRIC models have been developed for regulators and operators in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
• Kym worked with Cisco as the chief modeller, producing forecasted trends and revenues for managed services. The study covered 20 countries across the regions of North America, Latin America, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, and analysed the market potential for IP VPN, IP voice, metro Ethernet, managed storage and managed security services.
• Kym has examined access tariffs across Europe and has worked with Tele2 to investigate whether there is a fair, balanced and homogenous approach to the settings of access tariffs deployed in Europe. The cost model is presented as a top-down approach with supporting documentation on the clearly defined various cost categories, network elements and network demarcation points relevant for the access network.
