CMTS port shipments rocket in 2Q08

DSL shipments show strength in Asia-Pacific

For immediate release, 13 August 2008. Ovum today announced its preliminary quarterly results for global 2Q08 DSL and CMTS port shipments. "The top three DSL vendors, which combined hold more than 70% market share, all achieved double-digit quarterly growth, negating the dip in global shipments we saw in 1Q08," said Tanya Harris, Senior Analyst at Ovum. "Cisco propelled the CMTS market to its largest ever quarterly volume."

2Q08 highlights

• DSLAM shipments' growth versus 1Q08 = 18%
• DSLAM shipments' decline versus 2Q07 = 6%
• CMTS shipments' growth versus 1Q08 = 74%
• CMTS shipments' growth versus 2Q07 = 160%

Alcatel-Lucent, which shipped 7.7 million DSL ports during the quarter, claimed a 35% market share on a rolling four-quarter basis, followed by Huawei (27%), ZTE (12%), Nokia Siemens Networks (5%), and Ericsson (5%).

In the CMTS market, Cisco's record quarter boosted its rolling 4Q market share to 66%, followed by Arris (25%), and Motorola (8%).
