“Consolidation is a hot topic in telecoms at the moment as operators look to gain a foothold in some markets but retreat from others. Many operators claim that mergers and acquisitions are necessary for the future profitability of the sector, but they face considerable regulatory hurdles. Some big deals remain on the table for 2014, and these could give an insight into how several telecoms markets will restructure in the coming years.”

James joined Ovum in December 2011 and works as an Analyst within the Policy and Regulation practice. He is responsible for country regulation overviews, cross-country regulatory analyses, the benchmarking of wholesale broadband access prices, and timely opinion pieces on developments within the telecoms industry.

Prior to joining Ovum, James undertook an internship as an economist at the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). There, he was involved in an investigation under the Competition Act as well as a market study into retail price transparency. James holds an LLM in International Competition Law and Policy and a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of East Anglia.
