Advising on the commercial impact of technology and
    market changes in telecoms, software and IT services

The agreement, which is subject to contract, will see Ovum taking on many of the functions formerly provided by the EVUA Services organisation. This will include: executing and enhancing the EVUA benchmarking study, surveying members' ICT strategies, usage and needs, shaping the EVUA's three annual conferences on outsourcing, IP and mobile and also carrying out ad-hoc consultancy for members.

Objectives for the venture have been outlined as primarily growing globally the EVUA member base (which already includes Renault SAS, JP Morgan Chase bank, Unilever, L'Oreal and Pfizer Inc.) and building on the research base established through the EVUA's activities over the last ten years. Ovum aims to build a globally accepted series of benchmarks and user inputs to aid both sides of the business communications industry.

This is a policy research project which examines the ways in which broadband access and use may facilitate or enable eBusiness, eWork and eGovernment services, digital content development, assist in the creation of new business models and help overcome the digital divide in the next five years. BEACON will produce four scenarios of the broadband future and then draw policy recommendations based on each of the scenarios.

BEACON is the second such project in which we have been involved and the first as Coordinator. Ovum is also a partner on MOCCA (http://mocca.objectweb.org/) which examines user requirements for mobile and wireless services in emerging markets. While Ovum is keen to leverage its market and technology understanding and foresight, we are also able to assist coordinators in developing proposal content and in structuring proposals so that they read clearly and easily to reviewers. We have a very large client base for our research and consulting including most of the top fixed and mobile network operators, vendors, regulators and a selection of national governments. Through our network of contacts we can also assist with partner selection.

In addition to participating in Framework projects Ovum also participates in traditional EC service contracts. Most recently Ovum worked with Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher on a study entitled "Barriers to competition in the supply of electronic commmunications networks and services."

This long-term strategic partnerhips expands our global footprint and strenghtens our consulting capability in the Sub-Sahara and South Africa regions. It formalises previous co-operation between our firms. We will be jointly bidding for projects in the areas of strategy, commercial telecoms and regulation.
