Yesterday, Computer Science Corporation (CSC) announced that Gerhard Fercho will be president of EMEA Central Europe from 1 November, being responsible for Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Eastern Europe. At the same time, Fercho will become CEO of CSC Deutschland Solutions. Fercho was formerly COO of Atos Origin in central Europe.
Atos Origin, in turn, has appointed Wolfgang Sturm as COO for Central Europe, covering Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland, and reporting directly to board member Dominique Illien.
Comment: Fercho left Atos in August 2006, only two months after his promotion to COO of Atos's German, Swiss, Austrian and Polish operation in June. At the time, the company did not comment on Fercho's leaving. Now, he is back in business, taking a similar position at CSC. Looking at Fercho's track record at Atos, this is certainly good news for troubled CSC. Fercho, who started out at Atos in 2001 as Director of Managed Operations, was promoted to COO Central Europe in September 2004 and managed to almost double revenues in Germany in FY 2005. Only in June, he became responsible for Atos's activities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland.
The move at CSC comes at a time when CSC is looking at expanding its offshore capabilities, whilst reducing its established workforce. Only in March of this year CSC announced that approximately 5,000 jobs will be cut in Europe?, the majority of which will affect its operations in Germany and the UK. Fercho's successes at winning major deals in the central region - E-Plus and Symrise KarstadtQuelle spring to mind - will also be an asset for CSC.
