T-Systems wins bid for new IT system for Madrid tax office

Author: Cornelia Wels-Maug

Yesterday, T-Systems announced it has won a contract to design and implement the new IT system for Madrid's tax office. T-Systems will act as a general contractor, and will be supported by Spanish gedas subsidiary TAO gedas and Iberian IT company GTT. Both companies specialise in IT applications for public tax management. No sum was disclosed.

Comment: This contract marks the first joint project of T-Systems and gedas in Spain since the former Volkswagen subsidiary merged with T-Systems in April of this year. This contract plays to the strengths of both companies: T-Systems can provide the needed secure access to the tax system via telephone and the Internet, whilst TAO gedas looks after the application side.

But even before those joint activities, T-Systems has been successfully winning business in Spain, which is one of its core markets outside of Germany. During the summer, T-Systems announced a deal with Airbus to deliver and operate its desktop services, and with energy provider Iberdrola. And last autumn, T-Systems Spain renewed an €87m contract for the provision of IT and communications services for the government of Catalonia.

The merger with TAO gedas has given T-Systems' Spanish operation more impetus, and with combined revenues of €355m in FY 2005, T-Systems claims to be now among the top-five IT service providers in Spain - which was been one of the goals outlined in T-Systems' strategy briefing at CeBIT.
