 Basic Search Overview

To use the search, enter your descriptive word(s) into the search box and press ENTER (or click on the "Search Now" button).

The search will return results that contain all the words contained in your query.

If you are searching for an exact phrase such as "Content Management", surround the phrase with double quotation marks to return only documents which contain the specific phrase (Single Quotes Are Not Recognised).

There are two types of search available, Basic Search and Full Text Search.
Basic Search – is the default Search type, and will search the Title, Summary and Keywords for a document.
Full Text Search – select this Search type to search for words or phrases within the body of a document.
  • All Research
This search query searches all documents published on Ovum.com (including Marketing Content, but excluding Archived Research).
NOTE: Select ‘include Archived Research’ before a search to include archived documents in your results.

  • Licensed Research
This search query searches all documents that you are licensed to on Ovum.com (including Marketing Documents, but excluding Archived Research).
NOTE: Select ‘include Archived Research’ before a search to include archived documents in your results.

  • Select Date Range
This feature allows you to limit your search based on when a document was published to Ovum.com. A drop down menu includes the following options: All, Last Year, Last 6 Months, Last 90 Days, Last 60 Days, Last 30 Days, and Last 14 Days. Alternatively, you can enter your own specific date range, using the ‘to’ and ‘from’ date function.
NOTE: The default search option is the 'Last 6 Months'.

  • Results Per Page
This feature allows you to set the amount of results displayed on the Search Results Screen. A drop down menu includes the following options: 10 results per page, 20 results per page, 50 results per page, and 100 results per page.
NOTE: The default search option is the '10’ results per page.

  • Hide/Show Summaries
Click on Hide/Show summaries to view, or not view, a short description of a document.

  • Sort by Title, Relevancy, Date
You can choose to have Search Results sorted ascending or descending, by Title, Relevancy or Date, by clicking one of these choices on the Result Screen Headings.

  • Relevancy
Terms are weighted more heavily when they appear in the Title and Summary than when they appear in the body of a document. By default the most relevant document should always appear at the top of the list of Search Results.
NOTE: Relevancy sorting is not available when you opt to ‘Narrow your search by’, Author, Company, Area of Expertise or Service.

  • Narrowing a Search using the Advanced Search
Advanced Search offers options for Narrowing your existing Search through the use of pull down menus.

Author - to narrow down search by an author’s name.
Company - to narrow down search related to a specific company name.
Area of Expertise - to narrow down search to a specific area of Ovum’s expertise.
Service - to narrow down search within one of Ovum’s specific Service offerings.

To reset your narrowed Search query, reset each ‘Narrow by’ heading to ‘All’ or conduct another Search query.

  • Narrowing a Search using Search Within Current Results
This function is only available after an initial search has been performed. Search Within Results will only search the documents in the search results list. This is a quick way to narrow your search field when an initial search yielded too many documents.
